Finals make up day – Thursday May 29

(Students are not required to attend this day unless they have a final)

All fees need to be paid, sports equipment turned in, registration and payment or fee waivers need to be turned   in this week or you will have to register next year as a new student. If you have questions about what you owe, check with Kim K. in the main office.

Murphysboro Soccer will be doing summer training each Tuesday evening starting June 3rd from 6 pm – 8 pm at General John A Logan School. All prospective freshman and sophomore soccer players are welcome to attend. For more information, check out Murphysboro Soccer on Facebook.

The sophomore class will be selling hot dogs, drinks and treats during lunches during exams. Come celebrate the beginning of summer and support the fund for prom!

If you rented PE Uniforms and you still have them in your locker, please turn them in to Mrs. Stewart in room D9.

Free physicals will be given for all next year sophomore-senior athletes on Tuesday, June 3rd at 5:15 at the High School.

Key Club reminder that the May 30th Holiday World trip $20 fee, which will be returned on trip day if you have 50 hours, must be brought to the Key Club Office TODAY. Also don't forget calendar ads and pictures.

Attention Sophomores - The Sophomore class has a fun opportunity to make $600 this weekend. There is a Horse Shoot Competition this weekend at the DuQuoin Fairgrounds at the indoor arena. It is Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday 10 AM to 1 PM. They are looking for 10 kids to be "runners" during the competition. Runners would replace some balloons after each ride. If we can get 10 of you to participate, it would be easy for everyone. If you are available to do this, please see Mrs. O’Leary as soon as possible.

Attention Sophomores - The Sophomore class has a fun opportunity to make $600 this weekend.

There is a Horse Shoot Competition this weekend at the DuQuoin Fairgrounds at the indoor arena. It is Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday 10 AM to 1 PM. They are looking for 10 kids to be "runners" during the competition. Runners would replace some balloons after each ride. If we can get 10 of you to participate, it would be easy for everyone. If you are available to do this, please see Mrs. O’Leary as soon as possible.

Key Club Seniors: Remember that the Kiwanis Key Club Scholarship applications are due to Mr. Hall by May 1st. Forms can be picked up in the Key Club office.

Team Pictures: Softball players need to be released from class at 3:00 today for team pictures. JV/V Baseball players need to be released from class at 2:45 tomorrow (4/25) for team pictures. Players should dress and report to their field as quickly as possible.

There will be a planning meeting for the Baccalaureate ceremony Friday Morning at 8:00am in the Library. Contact Mr. Boudet if you cannot attend.

Key Club: We still need more help with Friday and Saturday's Pencil Days. Please check the Key Club office for those and other sign ups.

Congratulations to our Foreign Language Department and Multicultural Club for winning 1st place for their t-shirt design at SIU’s Multicultural Day!

Seniors: The sophomore class is selling Senior Yard Signs. The sign is 18 x 24, has your name and “Class of 2014 MHS Graduate” printed on it. They are $20 each. Orders must be turned in to Mrs. Varvel in Guidance by Friday (4/25). Make checks payable to MHS.

Congratulations to Daniel Bower and Kierra Nolan on finishing in the Top 10 of the Illinois Top Prep Times Meet this weekend in Bloomington. This meet is also known as the indoor state championships. Daniel finished 5th in the pole vault and Kierra finished 7th in the high jump. Steve Eldridge qualified for the meet but did not jump (due to soreness in leg). This a great accomplishment! Congratulations to all 3 athletes!

If you will have your driver’s license by the end of the school year you may be eligible to work for the school district this summer. We are looking for students to help in many areas, including technology, construction, maintenance, and secretarial. We pay $8.25 an hour and we will work with your summer schedule to provide you valuable work experience. Congratulations to our 2014 Envirothon Teams which consisted of :Meghan O’Leary, Justin Stilley, Miranda Bodeker, Cleda Grammer, Eric Finders, Aaron Meier, Hunter Neef, Cole McNitt, Briann Bean and Dalton Grammer. The following team members will be going on to State: Colin Wisinski, James Cross, Tara O’Leary, Jesse Stilley and Clay Rendleman. We are very proud of all of you!

Prom tickets go on sale Monday (3/31). You may purchase them before and after school in Ms. Hunziker’s office (Guidance). All fees must be paid and all books and uniforms turned in before you can purchase your tickets.

Seniors- the Illinois Student Assistance Commission informed us that MAP grants will be suspended on February 28th, 2014. It is imperative to complete your financial aid forms before Friday if you want to receive MAP funding for the 2014-2015 academic year. If you qualify, MAP grants are money for college you don't have to pay back!

Katie & Jonetta will be in the guidance today during ELP to help you with your Financial Aid applications.

Red Devil Baseball try-outs will begin Tuesday March 4th at General John A. Logan Attendance Center at 5:00 pm. Make sure you have a physical on file with the office. Also, be sure to check with Mrs. Kilpatrick in the office to be sure you do not have any unpaid fees, like say basketball shoes…or any other fees or uniforms.

WYSE nominees: do not forget testing is every day this week before school in Mrs. Morris’ room and after school in Mrs. Ehler’s room. You have to test in at least 2 areas to be on the team.

Finals Begin Today

 

The grade that won the Tardy Party for 2nd quarter is the...... Juniors! There were only 55 tardies for 2nd quarter. Congratulations Junior class!!! The tardy party will take place when we return from Winter Break.

Key Club – The last meeting of 2013 is Wednesday night at 8:00 in the auditorium. There are several important items on the agenda but the meeting should be over by 8:30. On behalf of the MHS FBLA chapter we want to say thank you to all the students who donated to the March of Dimes No-Shave November competition. The following students need to see Mr. Berry to recieve their gift card from our random drawing for making donations: Tabby Lee, Cleda Grammer, & Kaylee Ramsey. Thanks again to all the students who donated we raised $150 to donate to the March of Dimes.

The Sophomore class is selling Cardinal Calendars to earn money for their prom next year. If you would like to order a calendar, see one of the Sophomores or contact the office. They are $15 each. All money and orders are due Monday (11/18).

Winter Meet the Teams is this Friday, (11/15). The boosters will host a chili supper at 5:00 pm. Donations will be accepted. Team introductions begin at 6:00. Everyone is welcome.

Celebrate the autumnal equinox! On Tuesday, November 5, during all three lunches, the Multicultural Club will be presenting "FALL FESTIVITIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD" in the MHS cafeteria by the trophy

case. For one dollar, you can decorate your very own sugar skull or pumpkin, get your face painted, learn to dance the "cumbia(KOOM-BEE-YAH)," try your hand at Japanese Origami, and taste a delicious seasonal pastry(either a German "stollen" or a Mexican pan dulce (PAWN DOOL-SAY). Two dollars will get you all of the above plus a beautiful yarn sculpture.

Congratulations to Kody Rendleman! Kody shot 76-75 at the IHSA 2A Boys State Golf Tournament this weekend at Weibring Golf Course in Normal, IL. This score was good enough for a 7th place individual finish. The top ten finishers are considered the IHSA All-State Team. Thus, making Kody a member of the IHSA Class 2A All-State Team (a first in Murphysboro High School History)!

The Crimson Express competed in Potosi, MO this past weekend receiving best music, best soloist, best drum major, 2nd place in class 3, during prelims, and 6th place overall on finals.

Tickets are $10 each and will be sold during all lunch hours beginning on Monday, September 23rd until Thursday October 3rd. A permission slip must be turned in when you purchase your ticket. Parent Teacher Conferences Thursday (9/19)

 

To All Interested Juniors: Come sign up in the school counseling office for the PSAT. This optional test can help you prepare for the SAT, and automatically enters you into scholarship and recognition programs. The cost is $14, test is October 16th. This is worth your time and money! Talk to your school counselor for more information.

FCA meets every Wednesday morning at 7:45 in B23. Everyone is welcome to come and join us.

There is a list posted outside of Ms. Morris' room of all juniors and seniors who qualify for membership in National Honor Society. Our first meeting is at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19th in room A79,

Senior Powderpuff shirt designs need to be submitted to Mrs. Elwell no later than 3:30 Friday Sept 6.

Senior Powderpuff forms are due no later than Sept 13. You must have a current physical on file along with a code of conduct form and permission slip.

Any senior boy interested in being a powderpuff cheerleader needs to see Mrs. Elwell afterschool in B23 for a permission slip. First 7 to turn in a signed slip will be chosen. There will be 6 cheerleaders with 1 alternate.

Congrats to the Murphysboro Volleyball team on winning the bronze division at the SIRR Conference tourney. Kierra Nolan was selected to the ALL-TOURNEY team for the first time in her career. Way to go ladies.   Reminder that practice in September will get out at 5:30.

Seniors: Those of you that are wanting an internship, the Chamber and Friends of Murphysboro have 2 positions available. If you are interested, please get the internship paperwork from Rachael Hunziker in the

Guidance/Counseling office. You must turn it in by Tuesday, 9/3.

Attention all Beta Club Members: We will have our first meeting of the year tomorrow, (9/4) after school in the library. Officers will be elected and attendance will be taken. Other topics will include service points, Homecoming, and the fall blood drive. Freshmen who have a 3.25 GPA or higher at the end of this semester will be invited to join MHS Beta Club in the spring.

There will be an FBLA meeting Thursday (8/29) morning at 7:45 in Room C21 for anyone interested in joining. This will be our first meeting of the year.

There will be tryouts for MHS Scholar Bowl today (8/27) after school in the library. Please see Ms. Goode if you cannot make tryouts for any reason, but are still interested in joining the team.

The Crimson Corner Store across from the gym is now open during lunch. We have school supplies and some snacks for sale. After school we also will sell candy and chips at the front entrance.

Picture retake day is Friday, September 27th. I.D.’s will be given at this time also.

Other topics will include service points, Homecoming, and the fall blood drive. Freshmen who have a 3.25 GPA or higher at the end of this semester will be invited to join MHS Beta Club in the spring.

Again this year, Mrs. Trimble’s class will be selling chips, candy and candy bars on the cart behind Kim’s desk. All profits go to help our students attend Community Instruction outings throughout the year. Stop by on your conference hour for a little treat. Thank you for your support!

Mrs. Stewart’s class will be picking up recycling on Monday, Wednesday and Friday about 9:00. Please place your bins outside your classroom. Thanks.

There will be a Bass Club meeting Tuesday 8/27 at 8 am in room A84. Anyone interested is invited to come for information.
