Scholarship Information 


  1. Please complete the MHS General Scholarship Application   (available 3/1/24) This application will determine your eligibility for certain local scholarships (local scholarship with their own applications are listed below). YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IF YOU DO NOT APPLY. Please check with the counseling office if you have questions.
  2. Scholarships on this page are listed in order of due date. We update regularly, please continue to check for new scholarships.
  3. In addition to the scholarships listed below, we encourage you to check with your employer, parents' employers, your church & other community organizations.
  4. Links to national scholarship sites are on the bottom of the page. 
  5. Apply for scholarships within the college/university you plan to attend. These are listed on the 'Scholarship' section and sometimes the 'Foundation' section of a university's website.  
  6. As you become aware of any scholarship you've received, please inform your counselor. We want to make sure that you are invited and properly recognized at this year's Awards Night

Bold.org - Soon Approaching Deadlines - By enabling students to fund their education through exclusive funding opportunities, Bold.org broadens access to that education in an affordable and sustainable way. There are many different types of scholarship opportunities listed on this website. Awards range anywhere from $500-$5,000. For more information and the applications, click here


Merwin & Villa Spencer, Dr. Michael Mugge, Tim Herring Memorial, Darren Haney Memorial, Ryan M. Gordon, and Clay Brewer Scholarships - March 29, 2024 - Descriptions of each scholarship, eligibility requirements, application instructions, and applications can all be found here. When applying, enter the access code 186. The only scholarship that does NOT require the access code, is the Merwin & Villa Spencer Scholarship.


Kiwanis Key Club Scholarship - March 29, 2024 - This is a scholarship is $500 and will be presented to two Key Club members of Murphysboro High School who meet the following criteria: Will be a graduating Senior in May of 2024. Has been a Key Club Member for at least two years. Has a current GPA of 3.0 or higher. Has leadership experience. Will have served at least twenty hours of service by March 29th of the 2023-2024 Key Club year. For the application, pick up in Guidance.


SIU Credit Union - March 29, 2024 - This scholarship is offered to graduating high school seniors enrolling into a two or four-year college; community college students transferring into a four-year university; or adult students returning to college the opportunity to apply for one of ten $1,000 scholarships. St. Joseph Memorial Hospital Auxiliary - March 29, 2024 - SIH will be awarding three $1,000 to graduating seniors from Murphysboro, Trico and Elverado school districts. Applicants should submit a completed application, two letters of reference, transcript, and a one-page essay followed by an interview that will take place in the beginning of April. For the application, pick up in Guidance. 


SIUE CODES Program and Scholarship - March 31, 2024 - Applicants must be a first-generation college student, Black, Latinx and/or Pell-eligible, Interested in research and active learning, be committed to the community, and must apply to SIUE. Scholars are awarded full tuition and fees for 4 years. CODES is a program of study in addition to a scholarship. The program is cohorted and students receive extensive support in their first year of college. They also engage in hands-on learning with community partners. Health Professional Scholarship Program (HPSP) for Medical and Social Work - March 31, 2024 - This scholarship provides financial assistance to students receiving education or training in a direct/indirect health-care services discipline and assists in providing an adequate supply of such personnel for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). 100% of tuition and required fees are paid, a monthly stipend amount of (currently) $1200 is paid directly to the participant and an additional annual stipend amount is issued to help cover books, paper, computer etc. For more information and the application, click here


IMCAP N. G. Cowan Scholarship - March 29, 2024 - This scholarship is for young adults enrolled in vocational or trade school programs and can be used vocational training expenses for tuition, fees, tools, uniforms, and books. Home Builders & Remodelers Professional Women in Building - March 31, 2024 - The HBR PWB Council will award a female student, under the age of 20 in a construction-related career path a scholarship amount between $500-$2,000. Career paths may include construction management, construction technology, civil engineering, architecture, design, or any of the trade specialties at the college, trade or university they attend. Applicant must be a high school senior or enrolled in community college, be in good standing with a C+ grade average or higher, and must submit the required academic documents: most recent transcripts with application and letter of recommendation from school counselor or teacher. Rotary District 6510 Gregory F. Yank Servant Leader - April 1, 2024 - This scholarship will award $2,500 to each recipient. Some requirements include, residing in Rotary District 6510, or attend a College/University/Trade School within the district, have a B average or better, resume of school involvement and leadership roles. For more information and the application, pick up in Guidance. Ask Ms. Nast for transcripts and scanning the application if needed.


Crosswalk Community Action Agency Scholarship - April 1, 2024 - Scholarships will be awarded to Franklin, Williamson, Jefferson and Jackson county recipients. Scholarships range from $1,500-$4,000. For more information and the application, pick up in Guidance. 


Arnolia Boone Memorial Scholarship - April 19, 2024 - The Mu Eta Zeta Graduate Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. was chartered in Carbondale in 1983. This scholarship was created to recognize the Triumphant Soror Arnolia Boone, a Mu Eta Zeta Chapter charter member. This award can be given in an amount up to $500 each. Eligibility requirements include, being a permanent Jackson Co resident, female 2023/2024 high school graduate with at least a 2.5 GPA, submit an official document reflecting unconditional admission into a college or university for the Fall semester of 2024. Tommie L. Rayford Memorial Scholarship - April 30, 2024 - Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Zeta Amicae of Carbondale will award a scholarship to a deserving young woman as she prepares for the future at a college or university. applicants must have a history of community service, be an ethnic minority female graduating from high school in 2024 with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher, and be able to document your acceptance letter to a college or university for the summer or fall semester of 2024. Ben "Big Red" Arbeiter Memorial Agriculture Scholarship - April 30, 2024 - Applicants must be a senior or graduate of an accredited high school in Jackson Co. Preference will be given to MHS graduates. Must be a full-time student (12 credit hours or equivalent) for the fall of 2024. This scholarship may be used at the college, university, community college or trade school of their choice. Students may reapply to the program for up to four years if they meet eligibility requirements. For more information and the application, pick up in Guidance.


College Board Scholarship Drawing-Earn entries in monthly drawings for $500 and $40,000 scholarships by completing steps on BigFuture. Log in to your account, complete steps on your dashboard, and earn entries to win. One step completed = one entry in each monthly scholarship drawing.
