Student of the month applications for Seniors are available in the main office. These must be filled out and turned in to the office no later than September 4^th.

Powderpuff players – Practices will begin soon and you must have a physical on file in order to practice.

FBLA is hosting an Ice Cream Social today after school in Room C21. Everyone is welcome.

Art Club will have its first informational meeting on Monday August 31 at 3:15 in the Art Room. New members are encouraged to join. We will be discussing what direction we would like to go this year. If you are unable to attend see Mrs. Patterson for more information.

MHS Beta club will meet after school next Wednesday, Sept. 2 in the library. Anyone interested in running for an office must talk to Ms. Goode before the meeting.

MHS Youth and Government will meet after school on Monday Aug. 31st in Room B-14 (Mr. Brown). The meeting will be organizational and informational. If you want to participate and cannot attend, see Mr. Brown for information.

Don’t forget that there is $30 lab fee for all “D wing” classes, is due Wednesday (9/2)

The Library will open Monday, 8/17. Remember…to come to the library during lunch A or B you must get a pass from either Mr. White or Ms. Ward before first hour begins.

There will be a Key Club meeting for returning members Wednesday night at 8:00 PM in the auditorium. Any member with nominations for new members should bring those to the Key Club Office by Tuesday morning. Also, check with Michael Satterlee for some activities going on this weekend.

Please be sure to park only in your assigned parking spots. Cars without a parking sticker or who are parked in the wrong spot will be towed.

Student Council will begin meeting this week on Wednesday (8/19) at 7:45 before school in Mrs. Ellermeyer's room (A-56). This is your chance to have a say in activities at your school, and be a part of the MHS community. Freshmen and new members from any other class are all welcome, and we will be looking for people to fill the junior officer positions in the upcoming election.

First FBLA meeting on Tuesday, August 18 at 7:45 a.m. in Room C21. If you can't make the meeting and are interested in joining, please see Ms. Scott.

Key Club: We just got a request to help with next Tuesday's Community Day Out at Longfellow Park from 4:30-7. Anyone who can help should check in the Key Cub Office. We also still need help with Kiwanis Peanut Days this Saturday morning.

There are yearbooks for sale in Ms. Scott's classroom. First come, first serve ($58).

Homecoming ticket sales will be on sale until Thursday during both lunches. The price is $8.00. All fees and fines must be paid before you may purchase a ticket. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

The Class of 2018 is having a fundraiser at McAlister's this Thursday night from 5-8 pm. Come out and support your classmates. Sophomores that signed up to work the McAlister's night, there is a mandatory meeting in Mrs.O'Dell's room today during ELP.

All Junior and Senior Powder Puff cheerleaders meet in the auditorium today during ELP. Check in with your ELP teacher first.

For those interested in being SkillsUSA please attend the first informational meeting Thursday at 8 a.m.

There is an Art Club meeting Thursday from 3:15 till 4:00 in the Art room. New members are still welcome to join. Come to this meeting to sign up.

Tomorrow is throw back Thursday and Friday is Super Fan Friday.

There is a list posted outside of Ms. Morris' room (A79) of students who qualify for NHS. Juniors need to pick up a packet from Mr. White and fill it out prior to the first meeting on Thursday, October 1st at 8:00 AM in Ms. Mo's room.

After school Plato is cancelled today.

The Class of 2018 is having a fundraiser night at McAlister's this Thursday night from 5-8 pm. Come out and support your classmates. Sophomores that signed up to work the McAlister's night, there is a mandatory meeting in Mrs.O'Dell's room today during ELP.

All Senior boy cheerleaders need to meet in the grass outside of the gym today during ELP.

All Junior and Senior Powder Puff cheerleaders meet in the auditorium tomorrow during ELP. Check in with your ELP teacher first.

Seniors interested in JALC should get a pass for ELP today (Tuesday). There will be a presentation on admissions, financial aid, & scholarships.

Seniors: Advisors from John A Logan College & SIU Carbondale will be available during 5th, 6th & 7th periods on Wednesday to help with your college applications. Make sure to get a pass from Ms. Mikulay

There will be an important History Club meeting today after school in Mr. Martin's (B16) room. We will be shopping for Halloween decorations.

For those interested in being SkillsUSA please attend the first informational meeting Thursday at 8 a.m.

Attention all Beta members. We have been asked to decorate Kroger’s window with homecoming theme. There is a sign up on Ms. Goode’s board outside her room. The shifts are from 6pm – 8pm on Monday and Tuesday next week. We need 6 people per shift.

This Friday, we will be the WSIL News Channel 3 "Sack Hunger" football game of the week. Everyone attending the game is encouraged to bring a sack of non-perishable food items to donate to the Murphysboro Food Pantry. We will be competing against the Massac County fans to see which school can contribute the most. The school raising the most items for their pantry will also receive a $500 gift card from Black Diamond Harley Davidson to purchase more supplies. Please bring items and encourage anyone coming to the game to also participate.

MHS is proud to announce that the following students have made the Varsity Scholar Bowl team: Grant Berger, Zach Berger, Alex Bryant, James Cross, Bradley Evans, Cole Fletcher, WIlliam Lynch, Sophie McCormick, Karum Qasem, Chloe Parr, Michael Satterlee, David Szoke, Connor Tincher, Colin Wisinski, and Tristan Yokom. Our first practice will be this Friday after school in Ms. Goode's room. If you are a junior or senior and missed try-outs, come to our first practice and talk to Ms. Goode. We're looking forward to another winning season!!!

The MHS Beta Club has elected our new officers for this school year. Please congratulate President David Szoke, Vice President Colin Wisinski, and Secretary Caitlyn Clutts. If you missed the September meeting, talk to an officer to find out what you missed.

Congratulations to the JUNIOR class for winning the first tardy party! If you are a Junior and have 3 or fewer tardies for first quarter you may attend the party. Beta Club is once again sponsoring a door decorating contest for all ELP classes!!! This year, doors must be decorated to the theme of “Holiday Music”. The class with the winning door will receive a Cupcakes and Cocoa party on Thursday, Dec. 17th during ELP. We encourage everyone to participate and hope to see many awesomely decorated doors!! Be creative and have fun!!!

Food and cash prizes will be given to two classes: the class with the highest total number of cans and the class with the highest average number of cans per student. Full information and rules sheets were placed in teachers mailboxes. Key Club asks for your support as they prepare to deliver over 500 food boxes throughout the community.

We would like to welcome veteran Hollywood actor and official piper for the city of Los Angeles, Les Lannom this morning as he entertains us with his bagpipes. This is a great way to kick off the Multicultural International activity day.

All Sophomores need to have their koozie orders and money in to Mrs. O'Dell by the end of the day today.

We have had someone graciously sponsor the remainder of the bus for Saturday’s playoff game. We have 30 seats available. You will not have to pay for the bus ride, but you will need $5 for your game ticket. The bus will be making a stop for food on the trip and the return trip. You may bring your own snacks if you would rather. These seats will be available on a first come first serve basis so come in and sign up early in the main office. Let’s fill this fan bus.

Beta club would like to thank everyone who participated in “Deck the Halls” this year. There was a record number of participants this year. Special congratulation to Ms. Scott and her class for having the winning door this year.
